Heli-Skiing

We have recently applied for a permit to conduct limited experimental flights in the Stillwater and Coal Creek State Forests to research the viability of a commercial heli-skiing operation. The proposed helicopter skiing operation would serve to complement Montana’s diversity of skiing services. Our intention is to help promote Whitefish and Montana as a premier winter skiing destination. We are motivated to keep tourism dollars here in the states instead of having skiers go north for the opportunity to experience helicopter skiing. Additionally, we serve to utilize state lands in a low impact manner that has no long term consequences. The primary short term consideration would be noise; this is offset by the current noise and environmental pollution of increasing snowmobile activity.

If approved, this first season will be used for research of the weather patterns, and also to gain information on snow condition since there are no weather stations located back in these canyons. Upon completion of our research, if we can offer helicopter skiing safely and cost effectively, then we will move forward. We are in process of gaining EMT and avalanche training to prepare for the back country environment. Also we are in contact with many industry professionals to help us deal with this new endeavor. We are also fully prepared to acquire a larger and more powerful aircraft to meet the requirement of this type of mission.
